Guilt means feeling bad about something that was said or done in the past. Guilt makes the person feel stuck in the present over something that happened in the past. It is a negative and confidence crushing emotion. Guilt is used as a weapon to make other people feel bad about themselves, Guilt is used by adults to try and control the behaviour of their children. Reinforcing feelings of guilt in children is negative and can lead to panic, fear, introversion, sleeplessness, lack of motivation, shame and loss of self-esteem.

Using guilt to attempt to get children to behave in the way the adult wants is a step into make the child an anxious thinker. Anxious thinkers become sufferers of anxiety.
